At Thirteen Years Of Age

At thirteen years of age
She was placed in detention
This quiet compliant soul
Sought to avoid attention

As she sat at an old desk
Writing words over and OVER again
Her soul cried within
But no one could she blame…

...A teacher on duty
Passed by the window that day
And spoke with another
In a very concerned way

“Why is that child
In the detention room she said
Do you not know
That her mother is dead

The funeral was yesterday
And because of her Dad’s grief
She could not ask for a note
That is my belief…”

…So a compliant child
Wrote many lines
May be this became HER TRAINING
Now she writes rhymes
As a tragic experience
Turns to our GAIN
When FAITHFUL and TRUE
To our own heart we remain.
