The Ladder of Divine Love

The ladder of Divine Love
Has ten steps one learns
From Heaven it comes
From Heaven it returns

The FIRST step is the top rung
NINTH is on the bottom
As we progress downwards
Our selfish nature is forgotten

On the very top rung
The soul loses its desire
For the things of this world
And longs for what God requires

Here we abandon
Our life totally to Our Lord
Then choose not to look back
As our past we no longer can afford.

Our rest and satisfaction
Are found only in Our Maker
This ‘First Love Season’
Receives much grace from Our Creator.

On the SECOND rung we search
For Our Beloved’s will in all things
Our thoughts, choices and words
Centre on what Our Lord brings.

On the THIRD rung we desire
To be In Ministry
And work for Our Lord
But feel inadequate, intensely


On this rung we are humbled
As we learn not to condemn
But be supportive and gentle
Never judgemental again

Love burns in our heart
On this ladders FOURTH rung
Bringing death to the self life
And true praises are sung

On the FIFTH step we long
With an ardent desire
To be united with our Beloved
But get faint, frustrated and tire.

On the privileged SIXTH step
Blessings and hope are restored
The soul unites with His God
And is raised above what once made him sore

Daring and boldness
On rung number SEVEN
Seasoned with humility
A taste of the ‘Ways of Heaven’

The soul lays hold to His Beloved
On rung number EIGHT
Quiet peace, rest and union
Before the ultimate state

No words can express
The final rung of delights
When on NINE ‘The Flame of Divine Love’
Burns gently day and night.

A Place of Maturity
A Place of Union and Peace
Profound Insights are given
With OUR MAJESTY, we feast

When on the TENTH rung
One’s entered ‘The Heavenly city
ON EARTH we are PREPARED
AND PURIFIED FOR ALL ETERNITY

…LOVE here on earth
Is tried and purified
In Heaven it RESTS
And like Jesus we’ve cried
‘Not my will
But God’s will be done’
And by His Mercy and Grace
We become like His Son.

…The seeds of Love
Are sown down here
But The Harvest Time of New Births
Are found in the Heavenly sphere.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me’.

On the NINTH rung….
‘To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne,
as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne’.
