As Mounting Troubles Surround Our LandNEW ZEALAND 1991
As mounting troubles surround our land
And many hearts in anguish stand
Looking at our increasing woes
Getting cold feet as well as the toes
As news on news deepens the gloom
And troubled hearts remember the boom
When all had jobs and money to spare
And life went on with hardly a care
Those days now seem so far away
There’s not much else to do but pray
That things begin to come outright
And cause the future to be more bright
What went wrong we ask ourselves
Looking at the little food on our shelves
Struggling along as our politicians grow rich
While their very decisions deepen our ditch
Where are the statesmen of whom we could be proud
Where are the leaders that could lift this cloud
The motto at my school said ‘Service Before Self’
Todays politicians take opportunity for wealth
They say to us you must tighten your belt
While hardship by them is not even felt
Do as we say but not as we do
Trust in our words and you remain true
Oh that our God would visit our land
And make something out of it that is grand
Oh that He would put down the proud and raise the humble
Sort out our problems and remove all grumble
