To Find Matching Socks

To find matching socks
Was quite a feat
So to warm her toes
And bring solace to her feet
She with good humour
Would wear AN ODD PAIR
Until that eventful day
When only ONE sock was there

It was pulled gently
Over her 90 year old foot
The one left bare
She didn’t know WHERE to put
So she waved it mischieviously
And laughed with glee
“I can afford 100 socks
But this looks like I haven’t one penny”

…Her daughter entered
And her foot was displayed
‘Oh Mother,’ she exclaimed
Quite dismayed

…Christmas came
And Christmas went
An exquisite gift
To me was sent

But all I could think of
Was two matching cotton socks
Plus THIS CAPTURED MEMORY
To place in their Christmas box!!!
