My Name Is Elizabeth

My name is Elizabeth
I live at Waitakere
Almost eight years ago
I joined THE HOMECARE family

In this time
I’ve assisted the elderly
Nursed those who’ve had accidents
And cleaned reluctantly

I have bathed babies
Taught children with ‘special needs’
Gone shopping, done laundry
And prepared healthy feeds

At funerals and gatherings
Ditties I’ve read
Been back to school twice
To get nursing skills in my head

Salvation Army
Has provided love and care
I am now retirement age
And very aware
I can still assist
Those much older than me
Purpose keeps one fit
Challenged and healthy

…With love and laughter
Listening and respect
A caregivers role
Prevents neglect

…As the post war babies
Reach retirement age
May these aid those
In their challenging frail stage
