She spoke wistfully
‘For your experience I hunger’…

…So guidelines were written
And placed on the Rimu tree
When Manu strolled by
His heart filled with glee

‘Absolutely essential’
Was his innermost thought
'Oldies will inspire the young
With what the years have taught'…

…Deep in the forest
Were many ancient old birds
To remain in their own homes
They needed assistance, not words’

...So many caregivers
That were honest and kind
Sensitive and gentle
And to diplomacy not blind
Were all called together
To a beautiful glade
The situation was discussed
And the job description displayed.

High quality support
Is our aim and our role
That all may live independently
Our ultimate goal

These committed caregivers
Will deliver 'special care'
Be guided by a care plan
Renewed once a year


Safety is paramount
Then privacy and dignity
Respect of beliefs
And confidentiality

The ability to listen
Without giving advice
Good communication
Under stress remaining nice…

…Many older birds
Remained happy and content
And even although
Their legs were bent

Still they functioned
In worthwhile ways
As they were given support
Until the end of their days

...A non judgemental caregiver
That's reliable and can laugh
Enables the elderly
To bathe in Love’s aftermath.
