When The Earth Shook Violently

When the earth shook violently
From side to side
The Cathedral bells rang
And Emergency Services were applied

At 4.30am
When the ‘Garden City’ was asleep
This 7.1 earthquake
Caused many to weep

.....Thousands of people
Scrambled from their beds
The welfare of their family
Were the first thoughts in their heads

Beautiful Christchurch
Now soaked in sadness
Destruction everywhere
But oh the gladness
As no loss of life
Has been reported to this day
“This is A Miracle”
We hear many say

The Mayor bought comfort
With a steady sort of ease
All pulled together
Creating memories that please

.....Future generations
Will always remember
‘The wake up call’
On this fourth day of September

.....Oh how unsettling
The aftershocks can be
May these be terminated
Yes! A “New Way” we now see!
