May This Prayer

May this prayer
Be offered by Our Nation
May our hearts be transformed
To love the God of Creation

Forgiveness and guidance
In these challenging times!!!
This earnest prayer
She put in rhyme

..That which is evil
Are we calling good?
Are new values and lost spirituality
Preventing us from doing what we should?

Have we exploited the poor
And called it the lottery?
Rewarded the lazy
And called this the ‘welfare subsidy’?

Have we killed our unborn
And called this choice?
Justified our actions
With that innocent ‘who me’ voice

Have we not disciplined our children
And called this ‘building self esteem’?
The abuse of power
We call politics, it seems

Our neighbours things have we coveted
And called this ambition?
Polluted the air with profanity
In the name of ‘freedom of expression’!

Time honoured values
Have we ridiculed and put away?
Then called this enlightenment
Unaware of how far we’ve strayed

…When Manu received this petition
The faithful old bird
Pinned it on a tree
And cries of repentance were heard
