It Is Saturday!

It is Saturday!
Two young More-pork’s exclaimed
There time at THE PARK
Had been pre-arranged
For this was THE DAY
For relaxation and fun
At the end of each week
After all their work had been done…

Two lovely girl More-pork’s
Had watched them from a distance
But every week
They were whisked away in an instance

‘You are far too young’
Their Mother would say
And to be distracted
From your studies, no way!
So it’s quite inappropriate
To speak to young lads
Chrissy and Katrina
Inwardly became quite sad.

Every weekend
They became more and more aware
Of each other relaxing
In the distance way over there.

…This Saturday
Was like so many before
Until they reached
The ‘winter garden’ door

And there were the girls
With another stranger
Hello they said shyly
Realizing they were in no danger

‘What are your name’s’
The old lady asked
‘Reggie and Ronnie’, they replied
Then in the winter sun they basked

…They strolled the lanes
Admired the flowers
It seemed like two minutes
Not a whole two hours

…’Our mother,’ they said
‘Has broken her foot
This is our Grandmother
Much trust in us she has put

She has taught us much
About the facts of life
And yes we are being trained
To be someone's excellent wife
But in the meantime
Our studies come first
We are training
To be a teacher and a nurse’

Grandma they suspected
Had a twinkle in her eye
‘Manu is my cousin, she said
So before I die
I would be blessed
To see my loved ones with mate’s
Who would love and cherish them
Whatever their circumstance or state

I will speak with Manu
She gently said
He will know your family
As he is ‘well read’
And if he is peaceful
We will arrange a day
For official introductions
What do you say?’

…Reggie and Ronnie
Skipped all the way home
There amazing secret
They didn’t make known

Both had been smitten
Many months before
But they both knew
The forest’s Love Law.

…So a garden party was arranged
By Manu’s extended family
All who attended
Said excitedly
Today is the day
A decision will be made
Are these four to be united
And two more nests be laid

Parents and cousins
And Aunties were there
In fact the whole extended family
On both sides, from everywhere

All were agreed
And all promised to support
These four young owls
To abide by ‘all they’d been taught’
And support each other
As wedded pairs
Affirming one another
Well into their Golden Years.

…If we creep past quietly
We’ll see new nests formed
And maybe one day
With eggs will be adorned
As four young more-pork’s
Respected their family’s advise
Choosing their life’s mate wisely
Avoiding strife or a costly price.
