Marigold Morepork
Had damaged her feathers
Her rigid beliefs
She displayed in all weathers

‘Well! I really don’t care’
Was her innermost thought
If others can’t abide
By what I have been taught
That is not my problem
So she spoke all in her head
Many kept their distance
Because of what she said

As she perched on her branch
In the cool evening hour
A sweet wee Kakapo
Was admiring her flowers

‘What are you doing?
Marigold shouted down
Why are you still
In your very best gown

Why are you here?
And smelling my flowers!
My routine you've upset
And I’ve searched for hours
To know what is right
Proper and true’
Then the wee parrot spoke gently
‘Why place on me what’s for you?’

‘Respect your seniors’
Marigold hastily replied
You are still a wee chick
Unaware of what's required

How can you correct me
When you just don’t know’
"I know your flowers are exquisite
And in fertile soil grow"

‘That is quite enough’
Marigold said
‘You are still very young
So have a void in your head’

"In my enclosed garden
Please teach me to grow flowers
So my friends will come
And stay for hours"

Now Marigolds patience
Had run its course
Find ‘The wise one’, she shouted
With a voice quite hoarse

‘I am not in a position
To teach someone like you
As absolutely no one
Wants to hear what I think is true’

...The little Kakapo
Looked down at her toes
Who would understand
Did anyone know
That both her parents
Had fallen victims to prey
So in Manu's garden
In a safe zone she'd stay.

She called Manu uncle
He was her foster Dad
When he strolled in the garden
Katie Kakepo was so glad…

…Where were you this evening?
Manu kindly spoke
At his compassionate words
Katie’s heart almost broke

I was in Marigolds garden
Admiring her flowers
'Yes I understand
And our Creator empowers
Those who are willing
To teach by example
Their love and acceptance
Is so good to sample

...There strolls Katie
In Manu’s ‘garden of delights’
Smelling his roses
Learning Love’s insights’.
